This is my last entry before returning to Gold Coast. We are just waiting for our flight departing at 6:30 PM. This morning we checked out of the hotel at 10:00 AM and arrived at the Sydney Domestic Airport. We then dumped our luggages and I alone went to meet Mina at her apartment in Wolli Creek while Fon ate at the airport. Well, this is it. Last couple of hours before departure and we are totally bored again. See you back in Queensland!
Here are some photos of us dining at Watson Bay yesterday. Yes, we travelled all the way up there for the second time since my dad insisted that we try the delicious seafood at Doyles on the Wharf.
This is the 9th day in Sydney and I’m completely bored to death. Since we moved to Kings Cross yesterday there is nothing happening at all. We pretty much stayed at the hotel for the whole day and watched Austin Powers in Goldmember. Hooray, how fun!
Today we moved out of Maze Backpackers on Pitt Street and switched to Delux Budget Hotel on Darlinghurst Road in Kings Cross. Double with ensuite bathroom, air-con, TV, fridge, and powerpoints!!! Now we no longer have to charge our mobile phones at the reception. What a bliss! So, today’s plan is to go to the Australian Museum if we have time and sleep for the rest of the day. Well, actually I was thinking about going to Showgirls but Fon said she will follow me to everywhere I go so I guess that’s no longer possible.
We slept until lunch time and then visited UNSW and UTS in the afternoon.
Today was rather relaxing and laid back. We woke up at around 10:00 AM and had some brekky at Hungry Jacks. Then we went back to the backpackers and did some laundry and felt tired so went to sleep until 2pm. The rest of the afternoon was well spent as we visited CQU and caught up with Dr. Michael Cowling who took us around for a little tour at the undergraduate campus. At approximately 5pm we went for a little window shopping and visited the Queen Victoria Building. And the final destination for the day was the Sydney Tower which both Fon and I enjoyed very much.
I have to mention that during our tour at the Sydney Tower we went to the OzTrek show which had a virtual reality ride in the end. During the show, an old Chinese lady sat next to Fon and talked to her in Mandarin for the entire duration of the show, not knowing Fon is not Chinese and cannot understand a single word she was saying, and despite the fact that Fon said to her in English that she cannot speak Chinese.
Today we joined Activity Tours and travelled to the Blue Mountains. Fon is not feeling well atm so I will have to make it quick and go into details at another time. The main places I remember include the Three Sisters, Railway, Cable Car, Olympic Stadium, and Wildlife Park (Blacktown). At sunset we ended the tour by catching the ferry into Circular Quay and had the most expensive dinner at Wildfire Restaurant.
We went to a few places today. The trip started off with the Chinese Garden in the morning which was pretty good, except the part that we had to climb. Then we went to the Powerhouse Museum and literally spent a few good hours until 3pm (in other words, it was good!). Afterwards, we stopped over at the Paddy’s Market for some lunch and headed over to the open-top bus tour around Sydney. 90 minutes later we got back to where we started and walked to the Sydney Aquarium. It was a little disappointing since everything was asleep except the sharks. Fon said that it was “not as good as Sea World”. So yeah…Gold Coast still rocks!
My flu got a little better and we set out to some sight-seeing again. Went to The Rocks and enjoyed the market for the morning. Then we travelled to Circular Quay and spent some time reading newspapers and magazines at the Customs House. At around 2:45pm we caught a ferry to Watsons Bay and experienced delicious fresh oysters and salmon followed by some “serious” mountain climbing. Afterwards we settled down in a little park and fed some pidgins for the rest of the afternoon. Then we headed back to Circular Quay by ferry and took some photos of the Sydney nightlife and the Opera House. My head is feeling a bit heavy again and I guess it’s time for me to go to bed.
We arrived in Sydney this morning. Overall, we’ve had a bad day. Starting from this morning, I set the alarm clock to the wrong time. Then we got on to the door-to-door shuttle bus and realised we were the only passengers. The driver drove at a lightening speed. The speed limit was 60 and he was doing 140. Then we went deep into the jungle somewhere between the Gold Coast and Collangatta Airport. The driver stopped in the middle of nowhere and told us that he had to stop over at his house. As he left the car we thought he was gonna get his shotgun and shoot us on the spot!
Eventually we made it to the airport and after an hour of flight we arrived in Sydney. The airport pickup service was a little late but we didn’t complain much. By the time we got to the backpackers it was already 9am. We slept until lunch time and decided to go cruise around the city. Then I had the worst time of my life catching a cold and fever. Went back to the backpackers and slept again. And that was pretty much the first day in Sydney.
I’m just sitting here waiting for the door-to-door shuttle bus to the airport. Today is the day that we wave goodbye to Gold Coast for a short moment and travel to Sydney. There are so much things to do and I’m a little nervous. Taking Fon to Sydney won’t be as easy as a piece of cake. There will be unexpected events and things could go out of control. Anyhow, I’m prepared and so is Fon. We will be taking lots of photos and…this trip is so exciting and adventurous. It’s almost 2:00 AM, I better get an hour of sleep before it’s too late.
