Back to Windows XP

Due to many arising problems with Windows Vista, I was forced to re-install Windows XP back onto my laptop. One of the main issues is the Hotkey utility which is not supported on Windows Vista and therefore, it is a hassle not being able to switch video output to my LCD monitor. I have to admit that the good old Windows XP is still a reliable OS.

I’m 3 month old now!

Hello everybody. Today I turned 3 month old. Mummy and daddy were suppose to celebrate but since they are so busy with things, they didn’t have any time. Anyway, daddy is on diet so he is not allowed to have any softdrinks or fast food.

This is what I look like now.

3 months!

Funny graffiti

We came across this the other day, it was obviously newly sprayed…

Graffiti

It was funny since a mate of mine is Jimmy and Fon was saying, “Oh, I didn’t know Jimmy came to Sydney recently.”

Alison Park public toilet

After moving to Randwick for about 2 months, we visited the Alison Park public toilet during a trip to the park with Piyada and baby Valerie.

Upon arriving at the toilet, I was greeted by an LCD screen indicating that the toilet is vacant. Once inside, the door closed and locked automatically. So I did my thing and read the instructions on the wall which said something about “This toilet will flush automatically once you leave”. Then I found the soap-water-dryer (3-in-one) thing which was really cool. You put your hands under the sensor for the first time and you get soap. The second time you get water. And the third time you will get dryer. When I was done, I pressed the “Open” button on the wall and the door slided open. I need to mention here that I noticed there was a little bit of water on the floor and I wondered if it was piss. But you will find out later.

I went to grab Fon and asked her to check it out. When I returned to the toilet, the LCD said something about “Initiating cleaning procedure…”. And after a couple of seconds, we heard some low machine noise. A couple of more seconds later, the door opened again and I suddenly realised that the toilet was cleaning itself. Now it explained why there was water on the floor because it was hosing itself.

Unbelievable, this is the coolest toilet I have ever used!

Windows Vista

I managed to legally download and install Windows Vista Business on my Sony VAIO VGN-Y18GP laptop. Despite the fact that my graphics card does not support the Windows Aero experience, it is performing exceptionally well. I’m still getting used to the new interface as a lot of things have changed since XP.

Many people have critised Windows Vista to be highly resource hungry and claim that the operating system requires state-of-the-art systems to run properly. Many of the “eye candy” features in Windows Vista (such as Flip 3D) already exist in other operating systems such as the OSX and Ubuntu (Beryl/Compiz Fusion) and thus, some believe Microsoft tries to copy ideas from other products. BadVista.org is a website worth visiting.

Here is a screenshot of my desktop with Windows Sidebar and a huge Recycle Bin.

Saap Thai

378 Pitt Street, Sydney NSW 2000
Telephone 02 9267 9604

Front up we give this restaurant a 9 out of 10. I loved Saap Thai’s “Chicken Pad Thai”. It was not just delicious, but “addictive” is probably a better word to describe the aroma and flavour. Piyada ordered “Pad Ped” (whatever that is) and conveyed to me that this restaurant serves the true essence of Thai cuisine. The environment was pleasing and quiet. And of course, you would find a portrait of the King of Thailand sitting on the counter as you would find in any other Thai shops.

A day out

Today mummy and daddy took me out to the city by taxi. The taxi driver had a really really old baby capsule. It looked like more than one hundred years old. Anyway, our first stop was the Thai Consulate. Mummy had to fill out some form about my birth registration.

Then I took a pram ride all the way to Chinatown on foot…em, actually mummy and daddy were on foot and I was in the pram! We walked around everywhere looking for Khan Kluay on DVD with English subtitles. But unfortunately we didnt find any. One shop had it but was out of stock.

We then continued our journey until mummy and daddy stopped at Saap Thai and decided to do that strange thing again where they put something in their mouths and move their jaws up and down.

After daddy moved his jaw up and down about fifty times we stopped by at Market City where I had lunch. Later on we strolled down to World Square where mummy and daddy took turn to go to some room with stickman figure on the door.

By mid-afternoon, mummy and daddy were pretty exhausted so we caught a cab back. The taxi ride wasn’t particularly exciting but at least the the driver had a descent baby capsule this time. I want to say “thank you” to mummy and daddy for taking me out!

A beautiful mind

Recently, I’ve been experiencing severe hallucination of hearing my daughter’s crying. Ah…what’s wrong with me?

Randwick Tum Thai

167 Alison Road, Randwick NSW 2031
Telephone 02 9326 3261

This restaurant is less than 20 metres away from where we live. It has won the Best Take Away award (NSW Small Business Awards ?) and reviewed as “Head and Shoulders above the rest..exceptional freshness and quality” (Sydney Eats 2005). Personally, I didn’t find this restaurant appealing. However, having said that, I did enjoy their ‘Chicken Pad Thai’ dish for only $8.50. It is worthwhile to mention that I have ordered this dish twice and I never managed to finish it in one go. There is always half left over to keep for dinner. Piyada also recommends ‘Barbecue Filleted Breast of Chicken and Fresh Salad’ for only $10. Randwick Tum Thai does free home delivery for a minimum order of $20 between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM and opens 7 days a week. I didn’t have time to try out all their menus but I give them an overall rating of 8 out of 10 for their fast service and reasonable pricing.

Microsoft Outlook

I have switched back to Microsoft Office Outlook (2007). I have been trying Thunderbird/Lightning and Evolution Mail for a while but found none of them as effective/good looking as Outlook. I love Outlook because of its import/export feature which never fails. On the other hand, with Thunderbird/Lightning or Evolution Mail, it is a hassle trying to convert a simple calendar with repeating events to a .csv file. Despite the fact that I dislike Microsoft products, I haven’t yet seen any better PIMs.
