Front up we give this restaurant a 9 out of 10. I loved Saap Thai’s “Chicken Pad Thai”. It was not just delicious, but “addictive” is probably a better word to describe the aroma and flavour. Piyada ordered “Pad Ped” (whatever that is) and conveyed to me that this restaurant serves the true essence of Thai cuisine. The environment was pleasing and quiet. And of course, you would find a portrait of the King of Thailand sitting on the counter as you would find in any other Thai shops.

Randwick Tum Thai

This restaurant is less than 20 metres away from where we live. It has won the Best Take Away award (NSW Small Business Awards ?) and reviewed as “Head and Shoulders above the rest..exceptional freshness and quality” (Sydney Eats 2005). Personally, I didn’t find this restaurant appealing. However, having said that, I did enjoy their ‘Chicken Pad Thai’ dish for only $8.50. It is worthwhile to mention that I have ordered this dish twice and I never managed to finish it in one go. There is always half left over to keep for dinner. Piyada also recommends ‘Barbecue Filleted Breast of Chicken and Fresh Salad’ for only $10. Randwick Tum Thai does free home delivery for a minimum order of $20 between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM and opens 7 days a week. I didn’t have time to try out all their menus but I give them an overall rating of 8 out of 10 for their fast service and reasonable pricing.

Pindara Private Hospital

It is a little confusing since this is not a restaurant however, we enjoyed the food and service at the Pindara Private Hospital whilst staying there. The food was great and we had many dishes to choose from (we just tick the ones we want). The menu has a good variety including both hot and cold dishes. We enjoyed particularly beef steak with mushroom gravy and roast lamb with oven baked potatoes. The food is fresh, tasty, healthy, and it was enough for both of us! We give Pindara Private Hospital an overall rating of 10 out of 10 for quantity and quality, and moreover, we didn’t spend a cent since it was all covered by Medibank Private.

JK Kitchen

We visited the recently opened Chinese restaurant JK Kitchen, located on Nerang Street just outside Australia Fair. I had BBQ pork with rice and vegies and Piyada ordered wanton noodle soup. The food wasn’t too bad but I had higher expectations. The environment and setting was quite pleasant (reasonably modern and contemporary design) but if you are looking for quality cuisine then JK’s Kitchen is certainly not your first choice. Overall, we give JK Kitchen a 6 out of 10.

We went to have Yum Cha at Ming Palace this evening after Fon finished work. To our surprise, we were delighted to find that the service has improved since our previous visit. The food came within 10 minutes, not 30 minutes compared with last time when there were only 2 tables of diners. It is worthwhile to mention that one of the waitresses still can’t speak English. The food isn’t all that great but was acceptable and we easily ended up spending over $40. Some of our favourite dishes include Prawn Dumplings, Prawn Dumpling with Coriander, Dim Sim, BBQ Pork Ribs and Chicken Feet. In conclusion, we had a great night enjoying Chinese cuisine. We give Ming Palace a 6 out of 10.
